Rolison: Legislators Heeded our Call

Rolison will lead effort to repeal energy tax

Poughkeepsie, NY- Rob Rolison, County Legislative Chairman and Candidate for Senate in the 41st District, today, lauded State Legislators for heeding the call for mandate relief so Dutchess County can address the immediate need of repealing the energy tax. State Legislators responded by including nearly $5 million in this year’s state budget allocated for Dutchess County.

“In January, during my 2014 Chairman’s Address I called on our State Legislators to act and partner with us in finding a solution to Dutchess County’s immediate need for mandate relief. Today they responded and answered the call,” Rolison said.

Since January, Chairman Rob Rolison and County Executive Marc Molinaro have worked tirelessly to find a solution to help Dutchess County taxpayers.

“County Executive Molinaro and I made countless trips to Albany and lobbied hard on behalf of our taxpayers to get this result. We met with Senators from every corner of New York, including Senate Leader Dean Skelos, to ensure they understood the importance of our request,” Rolison continued.

Rolison, who also Chairs Senator Greg Ball’s Mandate Relief Council, went on to say that now he will immediately act to start the process for the full repeal of the County energy tax.

“As I pledged, now that we have the needed relief from the State we will immediately begin the process to repeal the energy tax,” Rolison said.

Rolison also thanked the people of Dutchess County for their patience and understanding during this process.

“We said from the beginning that this plan set forth by County Executive Molinaro and the County Legislature was part of securing the long term fiscal viability of our County. We are solidly on that right path,” Rolison said.

“Additionally, it is sad and unfortunate that because of my candidacy for New York state Senate, my opponents and fellow County officials found it more important to use this situation for their own political gain instead of working with us to find this solution,” Rolison said.

“While this is a tremendous first step, the need for further mandate relief still remains. Through this process, I have proven that I am the only candidate who understands how to deliver the real relief we need and I will continue this work once elected your Senator,” Rolison concluded.
